COGAIN Student Competition Results
There were several top quality submissions among the 11 final leisure programs that were submitted by the deadline. Each was evaluated by two reviewers. COGAIN decided to acknowledge the developers of the top four submissions by inviting them to demonstrate their programs in the exhibition at the COGAIN 2007 conference. FIRST PRIZE:
eyeBook, developed by Ralf Biedert (University of Kaiserslautern) won the first prize. Everything in the book can be controlled by gaze alone. In addition, the book keeps record of what the reader is currently reading. The reading experience is enhanced by adding multimedia elements that support the story as the reading proceeds. The reviewers said the eyeBook "applies gaze in a natural way, offers surprises and has potential for large audiences".

Other top submissions that were acknowledged in the award ceremony were:
StrongEyes by Jakob Schantz (IT University of Copenhagen). StrongEyes is an action game in which the player collects gold nuggets and avoids hitting rocks in space. The game innovatively enables "shooting" by gaze alone, without any separate buttons or dwell time, and has no problems between perception and control with gaze. Watch a YouTube video of the award ceremony and the game.
Road to Santiago by Javier Hernández Sanchiz (Universidad Pública de Navarra) is an adventure game that can be played by gaze alone. The player can switch between an action more and a free look mode, thus preventing accidental clicking of items. Dwell time duration and some other parameters can be adjusted within the game.
EyeArt by André Meyer and Markus Dittmar (Technische Universität Dresden) is a complete gaze-controlled drawing program that includes all basic drawing functions and an inbuilt help with example videos.
COGAIN is currently negotiating with the students to get the applications (or demo versions of them) online for anyone to download. Some of the programs are already available at Downloads/Leisure Applications
